Light Palomino

The following tutorial was written in 2011.

The model used is a CollectA Arabian mare.

The paints used are both the Citadel range from Games Workshop and Humbrol acrylics. For the pricing it is assumed you are using these paints and painting a Stablemate model horse but this tutorial will work for all scales.

The Basics

Prepped Model Horse

Ochre
​White

Pastels

​Medium Grey

Step 1

Mix 2/3 white with 1/3 ochre to create your base colour. Apply this over the body of the horse and the upper legs. Leave the stifle, elbow, lower legs, muzzle and face white.

Step 2

Mix 1/3 white with 2/3 ochre and apply this to the quarters, should, cheeks and top of the legs.

Step 3

Use a dark grey pastel to apply shading to the muzzle, eyes, ears (inside only) and genitals.

Seal your model.

Step 4

Paint the mane and tail in white. You can also add white markings at this point.

Finish off the details such as the eyes and hooves, seal your model and you are done!

Finishing Your Model

Finish your model by adding any white markings you like and completing details such as the eyes.

Make sure to seal and sign your work before glossing the eyes and hooves.
